Preamble

Autopoll communicates with the database and if available with add-on programs via TCP (the internet protocol). Additionally Autopoll establishes connections via FTP, HTTP, SMTP and other protocols to card readers, file-servers and the services of Autopoll, depending on the chosen configurations and the activated Autopoll modules. Autopoll looks like malware to anti virus software, real time process scanners, firewalls etc. because it communicates with a lot of other devices like a virus or malware. Due to this it is necessary to configure anti virus software, real time process scanners and other security features so that Autopoll can run and work properly.

Database

Autopoll communicates with the firebird database (even in local installations) over the TCP-Port 3050 (and 3051). These ports have to remain free and undisturbed. In some environments the second port is being negosiated freely to another port instead of 3051. It is possible to configure the second port over the firebird configuration file "firebird.conf" (C:\Programme\Firebird\Firbird_1_5\firebird.conf), (Row RemoteAuxPort = 3051, approx. row 336).

If no database connection can be established while the firebird server is running properly and the database path in the apv4.ini was configured correctly, the firewall and/or other security features should be deactivated (for a short time). If a connection to the database can be established afterwards, that means if Autopoll can be started, it is the proof that the firewall and/or the other security features are blocking and interfering and have to be configured properly. For the configuration of the firewall and other security features please contact the IT administrator of the customer.

Anti virus software and real time process scanner

In case of trouble during the work with Autopoll, especially during communication functions/processes, or in case of an abrupt increase of the database size, normally anti-virus-software or real time process scanner have interfered. For the troubleshooting the same procedure as for firewalls is advised. Deactivating, checking whether this was the reason and activating and configurating correspondingly. A dramatic increase of the database size, without a corresponding number of polled fillings, can be a sign of a broken database.

Broken database

The integrity of the database can be checked over File-Database-Check. If the "Export mode" is being activated before the start of the database check, the number of errors is being indicated in case of a broken database. A simple database repair can be executed over File-Database-Reorganisation. In complex and complicated cases please contact the Autopoll-hotline.
